Boris Johnson stepped down as the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister on July 7 following the resignation of key ministers and other officials. The resignation of any Prime Minister is significant but this is one of the remarkable one. The political crisis in the UK will put a lot of ongoing engagements and also negotiations. Rishi Sunak, the former finance minister, is one of the favorites to replace Boris Johnson as the next British prime minister.
Sunak who is 42 son of a pharmacist mother and a National Health Service general (NHS) practitioner father, was born in the UK. He has studied in Oxford University and Stanford graduate. Rishi Sunak first became an MP in 2015 and was selected from Richmond , Yorkshire. Sunak quickly rose through the Conservation party ranks and even backed calls for ‘Brexit’ . He was one of the supporters of Boris Johnson during his ‘leave EU’ campaign. Sunak made history in February 2020 when he was appointed as the Chancellor of UK.
He launched his bid to become the next UK prime minister after the resignation of Boris Johnson. Sunak in a campaign video released on Twitter stated that “Someone has to grip this moment and make the right decisions. That’s why I’m standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and your prime Minister.”
