Missouri bans abortion in the state, the first in the States
The US Supreme Court on Friday ended the right to abortion in a seismic ruling that shreds half a century a constitutional protection on the most important and bitter American political life.
The Attorney General of Missouri, Eric Schmitt, announces that the state has become “the first in the country to effectively end abortion.”
“The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” the court said.
“Abortion presents a profound moral issue on which Americans hold sharply conflicting views” said Justice Samuel Alito
With this ruling, the court has gone against the international trend of easing abortion laws, such as Ireland, Argentina, Mexico and Columbia where the Catholic Church urges to influence and keep an upper hand.
The decision will completely ban criminal abortion, forcing women to travel long distances to states that still permit the procedure.
