PM Modi’s first one-on-one meeting with Pope Francis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to the Vatican city of Rome for the G20 Summit at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
He held his first ever one-on-one meeting with Pope Francis, the head of Roman Catholics which is the largest religious denomination in the world. PM Modi was accompanied by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to meet the Pope.
Their meeting was supposed to continue for 20 minutes but went on for an hour and PM Modi also invited Pope to visit India. There were a variety of issues covered during the meet like COVID crisis, general global perspectives and maintaining peace and tranquility.
“Had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis. I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India,” said a tweet from PM Modi’s personal account and now will leave Vatican city to follow his schedule and attend further meetings.
Prime Minister Modi will now attend a high-profile meeting at the G20 summit in Italy and later head to Glasgow, UK to attend the COP26 climate summit as he accepted the invitation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.Yesterday, PM Modi met his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi and held discussions on issues of bilateral and mutual interests. PM Modi, who arrived in Italy earlier in the day, was received by Draghi at Palazzo Chigi for their first in-person meeting. He was also accorded a guard of honour.
PM Modi has met with the leaders of different countries to address the issues of International nature, to understand different cultures and primarily to enhance the relations with different nations.
