Some in sorrow, Celebration for some: Irish Twitter celebrates the demise of Queen Elizebeth II
On Thursday afternoon Royal family announced that Queen Elizabeth passed away at her 96. While many people all over the world were paying respect and tribute to the Queen, Irish Twitter started celebrating which is trending as number 1 on Twitter. Takes on the queen’s death are flowing swiftly and furiously on Twitter, everyone’s favourite free online forum for public opinion.
The queen’s passing will be mourned by countless people throughout the Commonwealth and Britain, but her life was not without controversy. Although it is a sad day for supporters of the monarchy and the queen, those who understand the inherent violence, racism, and exploitation of colonialism (and the violent history of British colonialism at that) are less dejected. Not to mention how poisonous and corrupt the royal family itself is.
In fact, the passing of the Queen has given rise to some truly sinister insults directed at the Royal Family and their bereaved citizens. Some people brought up Britain’s enduring colonial legacy. Others remarked on the obvious contrast between how Black Americans and Britons are handling the Queen’s passing. Others criticised the length of the Queen’s reign and the amount of modern human history that occurred while she was in power. If you don’t care that much about the Queen’s passing, Twitter has become a fantastic place to pass some time. On the other hand, there are people who are just being irreverent for fun.
Right now, a wide range of emotions is being communicated on social media. It isn’t only resentment, and not all of it is directed towards The Royal Family. Celebrities from the US are expressing their sympathy to the UK by going through the motions and following protocol. On the other side, the Irish public is giddy about it. Here are a few reactions to the Twitter

If anyone expects me to express anything but disdain for the monarch who supervised a government that sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family and the consequences of which those alive today are still trying to overcome, you can keep wishing upon a star.
