South Korea warns North Korea could face heavy sanctions for continuing cyberattacks

South Korean foreign minister said that North Korea could face stronger sanctions to prevent them from performing cyberattacks to steal from crypto exchanges in order to fund nuclear weapons.

South Korea’s new President Park Jin said that North Korea has completed arrangements for its first nuclear test in 2017 and they are already under various UN sanctions for having unsafe nuclear and missile operations. However, South Korea is going to take even more restrictive measures on its cyber networks to curb North Korea’s nuclear operations.

According to Park Jin, “There need to be more strengthened sanctions for North Korean IT workers stationed abroad making funds through illegal cyber hacking activity.”

North Korea has mobilized hacker groups to steal from cryptocurrency networks to finance its weapons as reported by the UN and the U.S.A. The U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser for cyber and emerging technology Anne Neuberger visited South Korea to discuss about North Korea’s denuclearization talks amid weapon testing.

According to reports, North Korea has performed almost 6 nuclear tests since 2006 also including testing of ballistic missiles with a capacity to travel as far as the U.S. North Korea has also conducted cyber crimes in Japan jeopardizing its ATMs, banking sectors, and financial grounds.

However, Noth Korean foreign ministry has denied every accusation claiming testing of weapons is for its defense only.
