Tear gas was fired at protestors by the police as they were demanding the President and his entire government resign as the country faces the worst economic crisis since its independence.

On Saturday, Sri Lankan President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled as angry protestors stormed near his residence, demanding his resignation amidst the worst economic crisis since 1948.
According to News Cutter, the protesters have broken through the gates of the official residence of the President in Colombo Fort. It is to mention that Rajapaksa recently announced his country was bankrupt due to the energy crisis.
The police have fired tear gas over protestors, demanding the President and his entire government resign as the country faces the worst economic crisis since its independence.
While thousands of protesters were seen carrying Sri Lanka’s national flag, some even came on vehicles to protest an acute fuel shortage.
As a result of the protest, at least seven individuals, including two police officials were hospitalized. Security forces fired tear gas to disperse the protestors. The protestors regathered again, after which police continued with tear gas firing.
“Sri Lankans have grown increasingly discontent with the Rajapaksa government, whom they blame for the economic woes in the country. Sri Lankan President fled on Saturday after three months of protesters occupying the entrance of his office for three months,” a source as per Republic World.
Last month, Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the island’s economy is collapsed. The government’s negotiations with the International Monetary have become complex because it has now entered negotiations as a bankrupt state.
