While undergoing a routine health examination, Joe Biden briefly transfers power to Kamala Harris
President Joe Biden, who turns 79 on Saturday, is the oldest person in US history to hold the position of president.
According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, President Joe Biden will hand over power to Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday while undergoing anaesthesia for a regular colonoscopy as part of his annual checkup.
“During this period, the Vice President will work from her West Wing office,” Psaki said.
When President George W. Bush had colonoscopies in 2002 and 2007, power was given to the vice president, and the process followed the Constitution’s guidelines, according to Psaki.
Biden, who turns 79 on Saturday, is the oldest person in US history to be elected president. Although there has been debate about whether he will run for re-election in 2024, he has stated that he intends to run alongside Harris.
