Alastair Cook is all praise for Joe Root after he enters the 10,000 runs club
After stepping down from the post of England’s Test captain, Joe Root has not let that affect his performance as he smashes yet another ton against New Zealand. This was Root’s 26th ton in the whites. Moreover, he has also become only the second English cricketer to cross 10,000 runs in Tests after Alastair Cook.
Cook himself lauded the former England captain and said, “He is a pleasure to watch, the most complete England batsman I have seen. The person who could play the most incredible innings was Kevin Pietersen, but for the most complete batsmen in all three forms, it’s Root. His consistency is incredible.”
With the time Root has of now, Cook is confident, he will go become the leading run scorer in Tests for England, “Barring injury, he’ll go miles past my record. He is so hard to tie down. I had to grind my way to 30, it always took me what felt like two hours. Because Joe has got so many low – risk scoring options, pretty much through 360 degrees, he will often get to 30 off 40 balls,” the former English opener said.
The current top five run getters in Tests are Tendulkar (15,921), Ponting (13,378), Kallis (13,289), Dravid (13,288) and Cook (12,472).
