Atalanta vs. Manchester United score: Cristiano Ronaldo completes amazing comeback at Old Trafford
In the second half, key players bailed out Solskjaer.
Manchester United overcame Atalanta 3-2 in UEFA Champions League Group F on Wednesday, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a late winner for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after coming back from a two-goal deficit. Before the hosts launched their second-half comeback, Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral had given the Italians a substantial lead in the first half.
Marcus Rashford got United off to a good start, and a key David De Gea stop maintained the margin at one goal until Harry Maguire equalized.
It was left to Ronaldo to score the game-winning goal nine minutes from time to deflect some of the blame from Solskjaer, who had appeared to be on the receiving end of some harsh criticism. While that criticism will linger, the impact has been eased substantially ahead of a critical Premier League match against Liverpool this weekend.
Once again, the Norwegian seemed to be at a tactical stumbling block and was rescued by his key players, with Rashford, De Gea, Maguire, and Ronaldo all stepping up to spare him from fair criticism. Solskjaer will not be moaning about this opportune change of events, as it appears that there is only so much longer that this kind of circumstances may play out in his favor.
