Babar Azam clinching towards World No. 1
Pakistan captain Babar Azam has now become the only international batter to feature in top three ICC rankings of all formats. The skipper crumbled Aussie batter Steve Smith and claimed No. 3 in the Test Rankings. His heroics in the first test against Sri Lanka at Galle, has surely given him a rise.
Babar is already No. 1 in ODIs and T20Is and now No. 3 in Tests, his ratings of 874 is his best in Test cricket so far. Former England batter Joe Root is currently ruling the charts with his terrific form in red ball cricket, Australian top order batter Marnus Labuschagne is comfortably at No. 2 spot.
Moreover, the Lahore lad, has revealed on many occasions of being No. 1 batter in all three formats of the game in the past as well.
“As a player, it’s a dream to become the No. 1 in all formats and, for that, you have to focus and put in hard work. It’s not like if you are the top player in one or two formats, you go easy. If you are to become No.1 in all three, you have to keep yourself fit and on track. There is back-to-back cricket and the gap is less. For that, you need to be extra fit.” said Babar in early June.
Also, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are the only two Indian batters in the Top 10 of the ICC Test Rankings. Pant on the 5th position while the Indian captain takes the 9th spot, star batter Virat Kohli, who is going through a rough patch has now slid onto No. 12th position.
