Ben McDermott’s ton assists Hobart Hurricanes to fetch third victory of the season
The match between Hobert Hurricanes and the Adelaide Striker’s was a complete solo exhibition in the alternate half. Ben McDermott recorded 110 runs in a 176- run run chase, leading his team to win in 7 runs. McDermott’s sweats helped him win the best player in the 22nd game. Big bash league (BBL) 2021-22.
The Strikers decided to make first use of the wicket after winning the bat flip, but started sluggishly, losing the in- form Matt Short for just two in the alternate over – but this only brought Matthew Renshaw to the crinkle who set about boosting the scoring rate.
Renshaw showed great intent from the beginning, manoeuvring the ball into gaps and continually chancing the boundary, as he and Jake Weatherald began to put together a strong partnership.
Renshaw’s positive launch felt to help Weatherald find his own beat, with a 14- run over off overseas spinner Sandeep Lamichhane helping swing the momentum the way of the Strikers.
The Hurricanes were obligated to turn to part time spinners Tim David and D’Arcy Short for four overs, and while only going for 28 all up, the Strikers brace were constantly chancing gaps and running well between the wickets as they made a big sum.
The Strikers’ bowlers closed with little to celebrate, with only three single wicket takers, and the likes of Agar (0-44 off three and a half overs) and Fawad Ahmed (0-36 off four) feeling the full outrage of McDermott.
The win sees the Hurricanes square their season record at three victories and three losses, cementing their spot in third on the ranking, while the Strikers sit outside the top five, with just one victory to their name.
