Brandon Khela signs up with Birmingham City; first British – Indian
Sikh – Punjabi teenager Brandon Khela has become the first Britisher of Indian origin to ever sign professional terms at Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City. The lad played for Birmingham’s U – 18 last season afterwards he slided into the U – 23 level in Premier League 2, now the player has become a professional after completing as a scholar.
His performances were appreciated by his first term manager Lee Bowyer, who gave Khela a place on the bench in a 2 – 2 draw away at Stoke last season, which was also round the corner of his 17th birthday.
Khela began playing football at the age of three and would have probably joined his hometown club Coventry City, but opted for a transfer to Birmingham after he was searched by the club.
He usually can play at anywhere in the middle of the pitch and is training with the first-team squad currently. The Punjabi boy also has featured in the teams kit launch recently as well.
“This is huge. It’s a landmark moment for all Birmingham City fans, particularly those from a South Asian heritage background” said Micky Singh, Chair of Official Birmingham City Supporters to Sky Sports News.
