Commonwealth Games 2022
Commonwealth Games is off with its 22nd edition and the opening ceremony is underway at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. The place will also be the venue for the closing ceremony, the home of UK Athletics, which is the governing body for athletics in the United Kingdom.
PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh will be leading the Indian contingent, Sindhu was announced as the flag bearer after the unprecedented withdrawal of Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra due to his injury.
Manpreet was later announced as co-flag bearer after the IOA notified that every contingent needs to be led by a male and female athlete.
Moreover, India had won 26 Gold medals and 66 in total at the 2018 games at Gold Coast, finishing third on the medal tally. This was the best at the Commonwealth Games since the 2010 tournament, which was hosted by India itself.
For India, the Women in Blue battled it out against the mighty Australians, as cricket returns back to the CWG for the first time since 1998.
Shiva Thapa will square off against Suleman Baloch of Pakistan in men’s 63.5 kg round of 32 bout, the Women’s hockey team is set to face Ghana.
