Crucial series ahead for South Africa against India as part of World Cup
Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has claimed that a competitive series against India will be essential for the South African team before the start of the T20 World Cup later this year. The T20I series against India will be starting from June 9.
Many big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are set to miss the series, KL Rahul will be leading the side and young guns like Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh are included in the squad.
“The conditions in India don’t accurately simulate conditions in Australia. In saying that, there’s still a lot of benefit from playing. Any type of competitive cricket will be good for us”, Bavuma said in a media interaction.
With some new players in the SA side, “We’ve got a couple of new faces within the T20 space. Opportunities will be given to those guys to see what role they can play and what value they can add to the team.”
“The attitude, the mindset of the Indian team, in the last couple of years, has changed. It’s guys who play cricket hard, who play very competitively. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not there but the Indian fighting spirit will still be there, the African nation captain added.
