Eddie Jones tells the stories behind his favourite snaps
Eddie Jones, England rugby coach, tells the stories behind some of his favourite photos.
Eddie Jonas, regarding one if his photographs, clicked with Prince Harry in 2018, commented, “I’ve never met a guy who loved his rugby as much as Prince Harry. At the 2003 World Cup he wore an England shirt like any other fan. We’re chatting here at a training session at Twickenham when he was patron of English rugby. He loved watching the team train and he and the players had a good relationship. These visits were very special for him because he could get away from everything for a few hours and he didn’t have to be a prince.”
Jones playing career began when he played hooker for Randwick between 1981 and 1991 and represented NSW 13 times. He captained the side which won in 1991, which was his last season with the club. Was awarded the Ron Don trophy for most improved club player in 1982 and 1985 and best clubman in 1990.
Eddie Jones was named England head coach on 20 November 2015. He agreed a four-year deal that would see him lead the team through the 2019 World Cup. In 2016, he led England to their first Grand Slam in 13 years at the Six Nations. He guided England through to their 14th consecutive win, 13 of these under his leadership. England continued their form during the 2017 Autumn Internationals, winning all three of their tests.
England lost to Scotland, France and Ireland for the first time since 2014. A 45–63 loss against the Barbarians followed in May of the same year. England’s run of defeats continued into the June test series against South Africa. However, they avoided a 3–0 series defeat by winning the third test 25–10.
