England certainly not playing the real game at the CWG 2022
From the past couple of days, England are getting on the nerves of all fans and participants in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. But, it wasn’t all bad for team India, Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Nitu Ganghas (48kg) and Mohammed Hussamudin (57kg) got India at least bronze medal by winning their respective quarter final bouts and advancing to the semis.
It was a forgettable for the Indian boxing contingent as Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and Ashish Kumar failed to advance to the last four stages, which could have guaranteed them a podium finish.
Moreover, Shiva Thapa was also a big disappointment for the Indian team. The exists of the trio was not good news for the Indian fans.
All the boxers lost by a split decision while fighting against boxers from Scotland, England and Wales, who all were part of the Great Britain.
Also, Lovlina’s exit came as a huge shock to the fans as she was miles ahead of her opponent in the opening two rounds, as the lead was 4-1. After the third round, the result was against her, with the judges ruling the bout 3-2 in favour of the Wales boxer.
A bigger shock was when the ring referee gave the Indian boxer a warning for holding the opponent and also deducted a point from her tally in the second round. The commentators even thought that the decision was harsh and it pushed Lovlina on the back foot.
“Lovlina is disappointed with her third round hand movements. The biggest setback was the warning and it turned it around in favour of Rosie,” national coach Bhaskar Bhatt said to PTI.
The Indian fans and diaspora were ashamed at the Great Britain for “making a mockery” of the sports by indulging in malpractices, which also included biased refereeing.
Social Media handles were flooded by the Indians badly bashing the Britishers.
