With a win against Arminia Bielefeld in the late match, defending champion Bayern Munich can reclaim its one-point lead a week before Dortmund faces Bayern in one of the league’s most anticipated games of the season.
Haaland hadn’t played in the Bundesliga since Oct. 16, when he scored twice in a 3-1 win over Mainz. He returned three days later in Dortmund’s 4-0 Champions League loss to Ajax, but was forced to withdraw due to muscular issues.
Dortmund fans were ecstatic when coach Marco Rose stated Haaland would return sooner than expected on Friday, and he delivered by bringing on the 21-year-old Norwegian forward in the 72nd minute against Wolfsburg.
Haaland drew a save from Wolfsburg goalkeeper Pavao Pervan before scoring with an acrobatic finish to Julian Brandt’s cross in the 81st minute. In his seventh Bundesliga appearance of the season, Haaland scored his tenth goal.
Sebastian Andersson scored in injury time as Cologne defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-1 in front of 50,000 supporters in the Rhine derby.
Augsburg substitute Michael Gregoritsch scored in the seventh minute of injury time to salvage a 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin, which finished with Hertha coach Pál Dárdai’s assistant receiving a red card.
Hertha’s losing streak now stands at four games.
Also, Hoffenheim thrashed Greuther Fürth 6-3 at home, and Bochum rallied from behind to overcome Freiburg 2-1 on the road.
