First Grand Slam in the bag for Rybakina, seals Wimbledon
Elena Rybakina became the first ever Kazakh player to win a Grand Slam singles and also the first Asian Wimbledon champion, she defeated Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a game of 1 hour and 48 minutes in the final of the ongoing Wimbledon.
Although, with her first win, a person would be jumping around in every corner, but Rybakina was calm in her victory after sealing away her first championship point with a service winner.
Rybakina also became the youngest women to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish since a 21 year old Petro Kvitova in 2011. Now, she becomes the fourth-youngest active major champion on the Hologic WTA Tour, older only than Iga Swiatek, Bianca Andreescu and Emma Raducanu.
With the Wimbledon win, this is Rybakina’s third title win and the first since 2020 Hobart, in the past two years she lost four finals and also the bronze at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
At the Roland Garros in 2021, she won over Serena Williams and reached the quarter finals before losing to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. This was only the second time where she contested the main draw in The Championships.
“I’ve never felt something like this” said the newest Wimbledon champion.
“And to myself that I can actually win a Grand Slam. Believe more in myself, and maybe I can win more Grand Slams. Who knows? But for sure that’s the goal, and that’s what I’m going to work for.” added Rybakina.
