Formula 1 banned Bodyguards to starting grid after Brundle Clause
Celebrities looking for glamor and amusement of Formula One races will not be allowed to bring bodyguards to the starting grid after an incident occurred with commentator and former raver Martin Brundle also involving Megan Thee Stallion at US Grand Prix in Austen.
Briton who is a former team mate of Michael Schumacher, Germany’s 7 times World Champion was performing his pre-race ‘Grid Walk’ for Sky Television. Then he tried to start a conversation with Rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
He went to her with a microphone to know whether she is going to rap for F1 and received a “no rap today” answer as her response. Then continuing the conversation, Brundle asked her about who she was supporting to which her bodyguard responded and told him that he could not do that.
It was harsh and Brundle replied,” I can do that, because I did”. He has interviewed a lot of Hollywood stars and also sports persons during his long career.
Then later, the Sky Sports F1 pundit, who has competed in 158 races, tweeted that bodyguards “could maybe learn some manners and respect on our patch.”
And now, Formula One source has confirmed to Reuters that the bodyguards will no longer be allowed with celebrities due to space limitations and COVID-19 restrictions but at the same time, the celebrities will not be obliged to give interviews.
Brundle stated on November 7, “There have been new rules introduced, that any celebrities on the grid must not have bodyguards any longer, it must be the ‘Brundle clause’.”
Then again on November 9th, he went to Twitter to give more clarifications, he tweeted, “For the avoidance of doubt I don’t care who visits the F1 grid, the more the merrier. Talk to me, ignore me, shove, wave, hug, call me names, whatever makes you happy.”
He also said, “All I ask is that you soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the privilege. I’ve not asked for any grid protocol changes.”
