Here are some similarities between Cricket and Baseball

Baseball and Cricket, the outdoor games appear to be very similar to one another on several terms. It is no surprise that both baseball and cricket are bat-ball sports⁵⁴ and are played by both genders in society. However, there are also enough rules and terms in each sport to differentiate it from the other. But here, today let’s try to figure out the similarities between cricket and baseball, and understand the factors based on which each of these two is said to be an identical sport. Baseball is widely assumed to be derived from cricket.  They both have their roots in England. Both appear to have been brought up by Flanders , the community of people who, later on, settled in different sections of the country. Both of these sports, however, have separate origins. Cricket originated in the southeast of England, but baseball originated in the west. Baseball began as a children’s game, but cricket was more commonly played by adults.

In addition to having common terms like innings, runs, outs, and umpires, read this article till the end to know what the other factors that bring out the similarities between baseball and cricket as a sport.

1. Bat-and-ball-games

Baseball and cricket are both sports in which one team has the authority to deliver the ball to the opposing team member who is supposed to hit it. In both these sports, players are attempting to score points, which are termed as “runs” for both, by hitting a ball with their bat and making the right target. Runs can be obtained in both sports by either dashing between safe havens or striking the ball out of the field. In reality, other points of similarity include fielders collecting a batted ball, batsmen not striking a ball thrown at the strike zone[] or getting a batter/runner out while racing between safe havens.

2. Fields

Speaking of the fields, both sports have fields with large outfields. Baseball’s batting track and cricket’s boundary rope are both made to offer similar purposes. In both games, they are used to ensure that the outfielders do not crash into the fence while trying to catch the ball.

3. Equipments

When talking about the equipment, both baseball and cricket appear similar. The balls used in both of these outdoor sports are made out of a cork core, and are also wrapped in portions of leather. So, not only the game style but the equipment worn by the players are also important factors that show similarities between them.

4. Type of Sport

Baseball and cricket are both considered summer sports. During the summers, players can be seen batting, balling, running, and warming up on the field more than during the winters. Not only this, both these sports are assumed to be international sports and respected to the core.

However, it is not all similarities and zero differences in this case. The differences between baseball and cricket sometimes overpower the similarities they carry. The style of running to score runs, the bats used to hit the ball and what not. There is so much when you sit down to discuss the differences between baseball and cricket. But let’s keep that for some other day. Till then, try to understand all these pointers that bring out the similarities between them and share the knowledge with your friends.
