“I think we are the dark horse” – Punjab Kings power-hitting coach Julian Wood ahead of IPL 2022
Julian has developed his own patented, cricket-specific training plan that is shown to boost a batsman’s striking power via the use of specifically created training aids and drills after spending time in the United States examining baseball training techniques and biomechanics.
Julian has created an amazing CV since establishing his ‘Power Hitting’ programme in 2011, working as a consultant coach for Gloucestershire CCC, Hampshire CCC, Middlesex CCC, and the ECB, with a special focus on strengthening important batters’ hitting for the game’s shortest format. Julian’s work has caught the attention of other counties, who plan to recruit him for the 2015 NatWest T20 Blast and beyond.
In the next IPL 2022, former Hampshire cricketer Julian Wood is expected to take Punjab Kings (PBKS) hitters on a new adventure, teaching the technique of power-hitting.
Julian Wood picked up the nuances of power-hitting during a ten-year career with the Texas Rangers baseball club, and he ingested it into T20 cricket, which was also gaining traction at the time.
Julian Wood, the first-ever power-hitting batting coach, speaks about the complexities of power-hitting, his interaction with Prithvi Shaw as a young player, his experiences working in the BBL, BPL, and Punjab Kings’ prospects of winning IPL 2022 in an exclusive conversation with Sportskeeda.

“I think we are the dark horse, all the big guns the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals everybody talks about them. However, I haven’t heard much about our team being mentioned much in the TV which is good as we can stay under the radar, though I think we are a pretty explosive side with both bat and bowl. So I believe we can win it and hopefully we have a lot luck with this one.”
