ICC may grant the hosting rights of T20 World Cup 2024 to USA, foresighting Los Angeles Olympics 2028
The largest economy in the world, USA is expected to host the T20 World Cup which will be organized in 2024. The event could serve as a launch pad in the bid by ICC for the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The world governing body of cricket is likely to award a joint bid by USA Cricket and Cricket West Indies to host the 2024 T20 tournament.
A report in Sydney Morning Herald stated, “decision on venues for ICC events in the next cycle was imminent, and that an outward, global focus would mean they were more widely distributed than in the recent past.”
If it goes well, it will become the first global level tournament which would not be hosted by India, England and Australia after the 2014 T20 World Cup which was organized in Bangladesh. The ICC was planning from a long time to give the hosting rights to newly developing countries for its global level events.
The 2024 T20 World Cup will may have 20 teams and 55 matches in contrast to 16 teams and 45 matches in the 2021 and 2022 Editions of the tournament.
The ICC has made plans to host several global tournaments to expand its reach between 2024 and 2031 and its initiatives start with the organization of 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA.
Between 2024 and 2031, the ICC is set to host several global tournaments, which will begin with the 2024 T20 World Cup.
A report was published in the American Daily regarding the decision which said, “In addition to marking a significant move away from those years, the choice of the US to help host the 2024 tournament would also serve as a launch pad for cricket’s long-awaited inclusion in the Olympic Games, starting with LA in 2028 and following up with Brisbane in 2032.”
