“It’s one number (Number ‘7’) that is close to my heart. So, I’ve kept it with me.” – MS Dhoni in virtual interaction with fans
The number 7 has been associated with some of the biggest sporting superstars. Cristiano Ronaldo has made his No. 7 a brand, while India’s ex-captain MS Dhoni has done the same with his.
The number 7 has been Dhoni’s shirt number since his international debut in 2007 and its legend has grown over the years. In a recent interview, Dhoni revealed why he picked No. 7, ruling out any superstitious meaning.
Dhoni said 7 is a number that is close to his heart during an Indian Premier League virtual interaction held by India Cements, the parent company of Chennai Super Kings. Over the years, he said he has heard people discuss the significance of No. 7, but he chose the number for a simple reason.
People initially thought that 7 was a lucky number for me and so on, but I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on the 7th of July, so it’s the 7th day of the 7th month,” MS Dhoni said.
“The number I will use will be my date of birth rather than trying to figure out what is a good number and all that.”
