Jaismine Lamboria has assured herself and India a medal by qualifying for the women’s boxing 60kg semifinals at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian beat the New Zealander Troy Garton by a split decision (4-1).
Jaismine had taken the first round as she led the scoring charts of all five judges 10-9. Heading into Round 2 with an advantage to her name, the Indian boxer started with some attacking intent.
With advantage of her height, she was all over the Kiwi and some punches were hit at the right place.
The final bout saw Jaismine start on positive intent, but the NZ fighter was also making sure to land some punches. Despite that, the Indian maintained her distance and put her vertical superiority to good use.
Moreover, boxer Amit Panghal also made sure he entered the semi-finals as he won the quarters in the men’s flyweight category (51kg) earlier in the day. He defeated Scotland’s Lennon Mulligan in the quarterfinals by unanimous decision (5:0).
Lamboria hails from a family of boxers. Her great grandfather Hawa Singh was a heavyweight boxer and two-time Asian Games gold medalist.
