Janneman Malan’s blistering start in the One Day’s
In the year 2020, Malan was named in South Africa’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against England. However, he made his ODI debut for his national side against their series with Australia on 29 February 2020. But, the latter had an unfortunate start to his ODI career, the batter was dismissed on a golden duck.
With his second game, he smashed 129 runs, his maiden One Day International century, the ton made the Proteas win against the Aussies by six wickets.
With the African nation team next series against Ireland, Malan hammered 177 in only his third ODI, the score is the fourth highest individual score by a batter for South Africa in ODI cricket. In the match, he also shared an unbeaten partnership with Quinton de Kock of 225 runs.
Furthermore, Malan was named in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year in 2021, he was also adjudged as the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
With the current scenario, Janneman Malan has played 17 innings, 885 runs, average of 59, 3 centuries and 4 fifties, people can only dream of a start like that in their cricketing career.
Now, the South African team are up against England in a three match ODI series, the opener is being played at Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street. Malan made an amazing start to the innings, he made a 77 ball 57 and the Proteas are 267/2 in 42.4 overs.
