Jeremy Solozano received a huge blow to his helmet, taken to hospital for scans
The key player of the West Indies team in 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Jeremy Solozano made a debut in the international cricket in the test series against Sri Lanka in Galle. On the first day of the first test, the cricketer dealt with a huge blow as he got a hit on the helmet while fielding at short leg.
The incident happened by a shot from Sri Lankan cricketer Dimuth Karunaratne in the 24th over. Veteran bowler Roston Chase bowled a short delivery to the Sri Lankan captain and he played a pull shot off the fourth delivery which struck the fielder flush on the helmet grill with the rear part of the helmet coming off.
Solozano took off his helmet and went down on the ground when the Windies teammates and Sri Lankan openers surrounded him. Medical staff examined him and then he was taken into a waiting ambulance on a stretcher headed to the hospital.
The 26-year-old debutant was conscious and responsive when he was taken to the hospital and now the West Indies team are getting their fingers crossed to wish for the player’s good health.
Cricket West Indies tweeted, “Debutant Jeremy Solozano was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his helmet while fielding.” They also tweeted, “He has been taken to the hospital for scans. We are hoping for a speedy recovery.”
Jeremy received his maiden West Indies Test cap just before the toss. The toss was won by the Sri Lankan Captain and he opted to bat first at the Galle International Stadium. Then after the incident with Jeremy Solozano, Shai Hope came in as the substitute player in the first match of the two test series.
