Jonny Bairstow misses out on third Test against Proteas
England batter Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the rest of the series against South Africa and also the ICC men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October after picking up a ‘freak injury’ while playing golf.
Bairstow sustained “a lower limb injury” in an accident while playing golf on Friday in the city Leeds, according to the ECB website. due to the injury, he will have to see a specialist next week to ascertain the full extent of the injury.
Moreover, the injury could potentially rule him out for the remainder of the year, including England’s tour of Pakistan in December.
Ben Duckett, the Nottinghamshire batter has been called up for Bairstow’s replacement in the third LV= Insurance Test at The Kia Oval starting next Thursday. Yorkshire player Harry Brook is also likely to make his Test debut with Bairstow ruled out now.
England’s MD of men’s cricket, Rob Key, had earlier announced that Bairstow would be opening the batting at the T20 World Cup, with England having dropped Jason Roy from the squad for the tournament.
Now, a further announcement will be made in coming days on who will now replace Bairstow in England’s T20 World Cup squad.
