Khelo India University games to be inaugurated in Bengaluru
In the presence of honourable Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, the Khelo India University games will begin from the 24th April in the tech capital Bengaluru. around 4000 athletes will take part from 189 universities.
The competition had suffered and was halted in the awake of the Covid – 19 but now as the country is improved and in stable condition, the competition is back. A total of 7500 people will be a part of these games including technical officials and support staff. The Sports Ministry has also emphasised the importance of using this platform to create awareness with regard to doping amongst the athletes.
This time the all the games will be green games, everything used outside of field of play will be of reusable material. Venues will have the facility to segregate wet and dry waste and also focus on using zero plastic. Home Minister Amit Shah will be present for the closing ceremony on 3rd May which will be held across 14 venues under a budget of 35 crores.
The Khelo India University Games will be as a qualifier for World University Games scheduled to be held in Chengdu, China from June 26.
The previous edition was one by Panjab University in the year 2020, they earned 46 medals – 17 golds, 19 silver and 10 bronze. Savitribai Phule Pune University and Panjab University were placed 2nd and 3rd.
