MCG to host Brazil v Argentina ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar
Few months back, the Brazil v Argentina qualifier which was called off within five minutes of play due to the Argentine players that had breached the Covid – 19 rules. The players claimed that they weren’t in any red list country before their game against arch rivals Brazil in Sao Paulo. The governing body of football, FIFA said that the match has to be replayed. “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has concluded that the abandonment of the match stemmed from several deficiencies of the parties involved,” FIFA claimed in a statement. The match “should be replayed on a date and at a location to be decided by FIFA,” it had earlier on said.
FIFA had also fined the Brazilian and Argentine football association with 3.7 crore INR and 1.8 crore INR towards their failure of order and safety. However, both the nations will face each other in Australia on 11th June in a friendly match ahead of the FIFA World Cup, it will set to be a good preparation for ace stars Lionel Messi and Neymar. It is also said to be the last World Cup for the Argentine Football legend along with his arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Victoria state government confirmed the match will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after almost five years. “To have the two of the most successful football teams in the world return to the MCG to continue their long standing rivalry reinforces our position as one of the world’s great sporting cities and Australia’s event capital,” Victoria’s Sports Minister Martin Pakula said.
The World Cup begins from November 21 in Qatar.
