Mikel Arteta set to face personal test with the arrival of William Saliba
Mikel Arteta will have to back up on his comments about taking Arsenal to “the next level” as he looks to coax William Saliba to stay with the club. After last season’s agonising his top four failure, the Spaniard has been open that he wants players in his squad who can ensure their upward trajectory continues.
Arteta is still waiting for a call up to the senior side, its now three years since the Frenchman has been at The Emirates.
But after his latest loan spell with Marseille showed Arsenal exactly the type of talent they have acquired, Arteta has strongly stated that he will be involved.
“If he stayed with us this year, with one Premier League game a week and with Ben White and Gabriel, he wouldn’t have had half the game time he had with Marseille, that’s for sure.
But, as he was an integral part in making Marseille qualify for the Champions League, the club are begging to have him back next season.
Saliba has admitted that leaving Arsenal without playing a first – team game would be a “shame”
