Mithali Raj announces her early retirement

The Indian Cricketer Mithali Raj, who played as the Test and ODI captain in the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team retires from “all forms of international cricket.”
Today she has expressed her thoughts in a tweet, “I feel now is the perfect time to call curtains on my playing career as the team is in the capable hands of some very talented young players and the future of Indian Cricket is bright.”

 

Apart from her written words, there is no clear indication of her early retirement from the Indian cricket team. She did not specify her future ventures in the tweet as well. However, she has mentioned that she would still like to stay connected with the game.

 

She has written after thanking the BCCI and Shri Jay Sah who is an honorary secretary of BCCI that playing in the Indian Women’s Cricket has shaped the person she is today.

 

She also further stated, “This journey may have ended but another one beckons as I’d love to stay involved in the game I love and contribute to the growth of Women’s Cricket in India and world over.”

 

She has been a celebrated player, Ms. Raj played 12 tests, 232 ODIs and 89 T201s. She last appeared in the match of the World Cup this year where India lost the game against South Africa by three wickets. However, in her overall career, she has scored a tally of 10,868 runs which makes her the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket.
