Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Punjab Congress chief, has withdrawn his resignation after 2 months
Navjot Singh Sidhu, speaking at a press conference, indicated unequivocally that he will take over as Attorney General of Punjab the day a new AG is appointed.
Navjot Singh Sidhu announced on Friday that he has rescinded his resignation as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, which he unexpectedly quit over a month ago.
Sidhu asserted emphatically during a news conference that he will take over as Punjab’s Advocate General the day a new one is appointed (AG). “Posts don’t matter when you’re on the path of truth,” he added.
Sidhu, who was appointed PPCC leader on July 19, resigned minutes after the new government’s portfolios were assigned to ministers by Charanjit Singh Channi, who succeeded Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister.
“The breakdown of man’s character emanates from the compromise corner,” Sidhu stated in his resignation letter to AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. When it comes to Punjab’s future and the agenda for its welfare, I would never compromise. As a result, I am resigning as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I intend to continue serving the Congress.”
The fact that the Congress government was appointing senior lawyer APS Deol as its advocate general was one of the grounds for Sidhu’s departure. Because Deol was the lawyer for former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, the police chief during the sacrilege incidents and police gunfire on protestors, the government came under scrutiny from the opposition.
In four instances filed by the Punjab police, Deol was successful in obtaining blanket bail.
Supporters of Sidhu said he was irritated by the action because it appeared to contradict the government’s pledge to punish those responsible for the police shooting of protestors at Behbal Kalan, which resulted in the deaths of two people.
Sidhu told reporters on Friday that the AG and the DGP are two key officers in bringing the Bargari sacrilege and narcotics cases to a logical end.
