Oval Invincibles shine in Hundred, seal title in second consecutive year
Oval Invincibles have done it and are up on the stage, lifting the prestigious Hundred H once again. They have produced in the clutch moments some blinders, they topped the group and then sweeped aside Brave, pumped up after winning yesterday’s eliminator, despite not winning the toss.
Moreover, they’ve also managed one of the more unusual selection issues, with regular captain Dane van Niekerk, their star player last season, playing just three games this time, with Bates preferred for the balance of their side.
For the second year in a row, Invincibles have prevailed against Brave on the big stage of Hundred. Furthermore, for the second year running, Marizanne Kapp is the star performer for the women in victory.
Though worth a mention for Emily Windsor, playing her first innings of this year’s competition, who ensured there would be no further wobbles from 78 for 5.
But with this Charlotte Edwards will have to go back to the drawing board, after seeing her all-star side come unglued at the final hurdle once again.
“Sort of a little bit overwhelmed. The way we’ve responded, with four overseas players we had to leave one out. Everyone turns up on game day, the way Kapp batted was awesome. To go back-to-back and be a part of it is amazing. (Kapp)100%, she’s one of the best allrounders in the world and she showed why. She shows up for those tough moments.” said Suzie Bates, winning captain.
