Paola Schietekat Sedas, a Mexican World Cup worker who was forced to quit Qatar after sexual assault, later discovered that a criminal complaint had been filed against her

Qatar had already made headlines when it was awarded the rights to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, the first time any Gulf country had done so. The country is again in the news, this time for a complaint levelled by a Mexican woman who fled Qatar. The woman we’re talking about is Paola Schietekat Sedas, a Mexican woman who was forced to depart Qatar after being sexually assaulted and later learned that a criminal case had been filed against her.

The Mexican government has issued a statement regarding the criminal investigation against a Mexican World Cup worker.
According to a statement released by the Mexican government, the legal team led by Legal Consultant Alejandro Celorio reviewed the legal file and obtained an official translation, and maintained coordination with the compatriot, her lawyer, the Mexican Embassy in Qatar, and other areas of the Foreign Ministry to strengthen the defense’s legal arguments.

According to the statement, at the hearing on April 3, the counsel for the comrade presented the legal defence reasons to the judge and prosecution for consideration. The judge decided to put an end to the criminal case. In compliance with existing norms and international law, the Mexican Embassy in Qatar will continue to provide consular help and advise to Mexicans who are in Qatari territory.
