Ross Taylor ends his test career with a wicket
In the end, New Zealand won the game easily, but the way it ended was a fairytale. Bangladesh were nine down at the end of the 79th over, but the lights started to fade. It was imperative that New Zealand bowl spinners, but they lacked any spinners in their team. The last wicket came from Ross Taylor on only his third ball after Tom Latham gave the ball to him. Taylor ended his test career with a winning wicket of his delivery.
During the post-game interview, Ross Taylor mentioned taking a wicket on his last ball. It was Taylor’s most precious act during the entire game, he maintains.
“It’s great to end your career with a win and a wicket,” Taylor said.
“Tom (Latham) said that it was the most precious thing I did in this game when it got a bit funky toward the end.”
“It’s been a pleasure representing my country, I’ve played a lot here (in Christchurch), I spent lots of time here and it’s been an enjoyable experience.”
During his test career, Ross Taylor scored 7655 runs at 44.76, with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. In the World Test Championship final at Southampton, he also scored the winning runs for New Zealand. Taylor will be available for Australia’s white-ball series.
