RR signed the following five players, but they never played a game for the team
IPL, the Indian premier league, is the favorite season for every cricket fan. One of the favourite IPL teams is Rajasthan Royals. The Jaipur franchise won the IPL 2008 trophy after a thrilling final against the Chennai Super Kings, led by Shane Warne.
In spite of this, the Royals have never been able to take home the trophy. Though the franchise signed stars like Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane, Jofra Archer, Karun Nair, and Sanju Samson, RR never managed to win another championship.
Following five names never got a chance to play for the Jaipur-based IPL franchise even though they were in the squad.
Joined RR in 2008 as Justin Langer
A former member of the IPL winning Rajasthan Royals squad, Justin Langer is currently the head coach of the current Australian team. He was retained by RR for the 2009 season, too, but he didn’t debut in the IPL.
The Rajasthan Royals only had Langer play one match. It was against Middlesex in the British Asian Challenge T20 Charity match.
Rajasthan Royals signed Aakash Chopra in 2011
Aakash Chopra, a famous cricket commentator, played for two teams in the Indian Premier League. Fans may remember Chopra from his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders, but few would be aware he was even a member of the Rajasthan Royal team.
Chopra earned an IPL deal from the Royals in 2011 and stayed with the franchise for two seasons. Unfortunately, he never played for the Royals.
RR Deepak Chahar joined RR in 2011
Had the Rajasthan Royals selected him even once in their playing XI in 2011, Deepak Chahar might have made his IPL debut a decade ago. In advance of the fourth season of the IPL, he joined the Jaipur-based franchise.
Despite being part of the RR squad for two years, neither Aakash Chopra nor Chahar played any games.
RR’s Paul Collingwood joined in 2011
In 2010, Collingwood made his IPL debut for the Delhi Daredevils. He signed with the Rajasthan Royals a year later, but he did not play a single game for them. In 2011, and 2012, Collingwood was a member of the RR squad, but his last IPL appearance came only in 2010.
Dinesh Chandimal – Joined Rajasthan Royals in 2012
The Sri Lankan batsman Dinesh Chandimal has yet to appear in an IPL match. Right-handed batter received his maiden IPL contract from the Rajasthan Royals in 2021.
Chandimal, however, did not wear a RR shirt for a single match like the other names on the list. The mega auction this year will be an interesting opportunity to see if he returns to his former franchise after a decade.
