Star Sports India goes again, Viacom18 joins; IPL Media rights
Star Sports has retained Indian TV rights of IPL for the next five years while Viacom18 has scalped the digital rights. The BCCI has earned themselves a huge profit of Rs. 46,000 crores, which is way more than the 2018 auction value. The final valuation will be between Rs. 47,000 to Rs. 50,000 crores.
The cricket board will make 100+ crore earnings with every match, and with the purchase of the TV and Digital rights, the BCCI is now one of the most biggest and richest sports entities in the world.
Package A was sold for Rs. 23, 575 crores and Package B made Rs. 20, 500 crores.
“We are already reaching the USD 5.5 billion mark after selling two packages. But digital rights per match value touching Rs. 50 crore is massive. An incremental growth of 51 per cent over and above base price is phenomenal,” a BCCI functionary told PTI.
Over the past few years, IPL has gained immense popularity and now it being said that the league will be more wealthier than the English Premier League in the United Kingdom, which is of football and one of the most popular and biggest sports league worldwide.
