T20 World Cup 2021: Williamson confirmed that Tim Seifert will replace Davon Conway in the final match
Today is the final match of T20 World Cup 2021 between New Zealand and Australia. It is New Zealand’s chance to their first ever T20 World Cup trophy and the team is very excited for the same. But now, New Zealand is replacing wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway with Tim Seifert in today’s match because Conway has broke his hand in a frustrating punch after his dismissal against England.
New Zealand will bring Tim Seifert in to replace Devon Conway in Sunday’s T20 World Cup final against Australia after the wicketkeeper-batsman broke his right hand with a frustrated punch following his dismissal against England.
Conway was sorry about the incident after being ruled out of both the World Cup decider and the following tour of India. Gary Stead, coach of New Zealand team said, “While it’s not the smartest thing he’s done there’s certainly an element of bad luck in the injury. He’s certainly remorseful around it, it’s an honest mistake he’s made.”
He added, “He knows it’s having an impact on our team as well but that will provide an opportunity for someone else to come into the side and step up on the biggest stage now.”
“Sometimes strange things happen and we find heroes in other places as well.”
Seifert has only play one match in the tournament, the one where New Zealand was well-beaten by Pakistan. He has done his training with Conway and brings the experience in playing as a player of Trinbago Knight Riders XI in a CPL final (2020) and a Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL final (2021).
The caption of the Black Caps, Kane Williamson stated, “There’s a good sort of mix of youth and experience.” He also said, “some of the younger players – they keep coming through in all teams. [They] love to hit the ball out of the park and [are] really exciting talents and someone like Tim Seifert coming in is very much like that. Obviously, the loss of Devon is a big one. He’s been a big part of all formats for us and a disappointing and really freak thing to happen but for us, it’s keeping our focus on the task.”
The team is well-prepared and also hoping to achieve its first T20 World Cup trophy.
