Thomas Tuchel reacts to Arsenal supporter Lewis Hamilton’s interest in a purchase deal for Chelsea

After Sir Lewis Hamilton stated he is part of Sir Martin Broughton’s bid to buy Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel joked about the F1 icon being an Arsenal fan. Former Liverpool chairman Broughton is leading a proposal to buy the Blues, which also includes four-time Olympic champion, Lord Sebastian Coe. Hamilton and tennis legend Serena Williams have joined the deal. The seven-time Formula One champion has described the bid as a fantastic chance.

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Tuchel was asked about Hamilton’s interest in Chelsea. He was also questioned for his thoughts on the racer being an Arsenal supporter, only two days after his team fell 4-2 at Stamford Bridge to the Gunners.

“I just got a briefing and heard it – that they are part of it” replied Tuchel. “I can tell you not more than I’m a big admirer of both of them [Hamilton and Williams]. They’re fantastic sports personalities – fantastic personalities on the court, on the race track, and off.”

“They take responsibility as persons, human beings, and are outstanding sports figures in what they do, which for which they have my biggest respect. But I have no insight into the proceedings and what role they’ll play, so I would not comment.”

On Hamilton being an Arsenal fan, Tuchel joked: “That might explain something two days ago! But hopefully, they’ll be no influence for the West Ham game.” Chelsea was put up for sale last month, just before owner Roman Abramovich was banned for alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he denies. Putin is fighting a violent and unjustified war in Ukraine right now.
