Top Javelin throwers of Europe

Jan Zelenzny

A Czech Republic track and field athlete, who is famous for his records in javelin throw. He is a world and Olympic champion and has a world record of a javelin throw of 98.48 m. Considered as the most greatest javelin thrower in modern time, he is surely an influence on many. He has broken the world record four times. A three time Olympic gold medalist and three time gold medalist in World Championship. Zelenzny retired after the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg, where he won bronze with a throw of 85.92 m.

Johannes Vetter

A German javelin thrower, his throw of 97.76 is the German world record and has placed him second in the overall list. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. He participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics for Germany, along with Julian Weber and gold medalist Thomas Rohler. In his first Olympics he made a record of personal best of 88.23 m, however he could not make through the lead and came at fourth place. Afterwards, he finished at first place at the 2016 ISTAF Berlin, with a personal best 89.57 m. 2020 Tokyo Olympics was also a sheer disappointment for Vetter as he finished at 9th place and even lost to Neeraj Chopra of India.

Marcin Krukowski

Track and field athlete, who competes in Javelin throw, hailing from Warsaw, Poland. His personal best of 89.55 m in 2021 is the Polish record. He has participated three times in the World Championships representing Poland. He also took part in the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the son of former javelin throwers Agnieszka and Michal Krukowski. He was victorious in the DecaNation in France, 2017.

Oliver Helander

Finnish track and field athlete, and a javelin thrower. He also has played handball earlier, he came with glory after winning the javelin throw Finnish Championship in 2018. He qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics to represent Finland. Although, not making big on the international and global stages, his potential is something which will be a treat to watch in his performances in the upcoming years. Helander’s best till date is in the 2013 World Youth Championships in which his throw of 75.36 m, earned him a fourth place.

Leandro Ramos

Portuguese athlete specialized in javelin throw, he won a silver medal at the 2021 European U23 Championships. His personal best is 84.78 m which he earned in Doha in 2022, this is also the current national record. Recently, he came at 1st position at the Ibero – American Championships in La Nucia, Spain. He is trained under the guidance of Carlos Tribuna.
