Top NBA Players of North Korea
Ri Myung-hun
This North Korean has been a fan of Michael Jordan, the players is also known as Michael Ri. He has a height of 7ft 8.5 in and is also the tallest person in North Korea. He played at center position for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). He took out his training from Canada, where he was scouted by numerous teams, although he could not play in the leagues due to the United States ban on Korean trade. Ri was also one of the attendees in the funeral of Kim Jong-il and moreover the North Korean television showed footage in which he was seen as an unusual human being in the crowd.
Ri Myung-hun is the most famous basketball player ever produced by the DPRK, the man was such a pioneer and local force at basketball that he was even touted to play the NBA in America. A lot of famous soccer/football players had become a big hit in the world but due to the harsh allegations and relations between the two countries, Ri definitely had to pay the price.
However, the North Korean national basketball team compete regularly at international stages, the team was also runners up in the 1993 Asian Basketball Confederation Championships in Indonesia.
The future of the North Koreans is still being figured out in scrutiny and the current squad is much more bigger and better than the previous years. They have got some good 7 footers which will definitely benefit the team in coming time.
Other than Ri, any player has not made a benchmark for himself at the world stage as Basketball is more on the North American regions and the Korean side are more into football.
