Unmukt Chand becomes first Indian man to play in BBL

A former U-19 World Cup captain, Unmukt Chand has become the first Indian cricketer to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL). His debut was against the Hobart Hurricanes for the Melbourne Renegades.
Chand is playing under Aaron Finch’s limited-overs skippership, which will also feature Shaun Marsh.

Last year, the 28-year-old retired from the Indian premier league and is currently playing in different leagues around the world.

An ex-India A skipper, Chand played for three franchises in the Indian Premier League – the Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals. He had a domestic career spanning more than a decade, including 67 first-class matches.
He burst onto the international stage as a teenager at the 2012 ICC U-19 World Cup in Australia. Against a team featuring BBL stars Travis Head and Ashton Turner, he scored an unbeaten 111 and was named Player of the Match.

After moving to Uttarakhand in search of stability in 2019, Chand left after indifferent performances led to his ouster within a year. As a result, he quit Indian cricket in search of career opportunities in the United States of America.
