Warner praises Kohli and talks about Virat’s lean period
Virat Kohli’s ongoing lean patch has been widely discussed, largely due to his string of 777 days without a century in international cricket. David Warner, a fellow cricketer and Australian opener, reserved the highest praise for the Indian Test captain, urging critics to “understand his situation”.
On Backstage with Boria, Warner discussed Kohli’s poor run of form in international cricket, stating that the veteran Indian batsman has earned the right to fail and go through rough patches after achieving so much in the sport. He then urged critics to empathize with Kohli by noting that all cricketers live in a bubble and that he had just given birth.
Warner said that many people have talked about Virat Kohli’s form over the last couple of years. A pandemic has struck. He just gave birth to a baby. His only accomplishment is that he survived. If you fail, you learn. It’s okay to fail. Being so good at what you do earns you the right to fail. Steve Smith doesn’t score a century in his fourth inning, because the stats say he does it every four innings. Humans are fallible. Errors can occur.
A seven-wicket win in Johannesburg by the Dean Elgar-led South African team has leveled the series against Kohli.
Rahul replaced Kohli as captain after Kohli missed the match due to a back spasm. As the third and final Test match in Cape Town begins on January 11, the 33-year-old is expected to return.
Warner is currently engaged in the Ashes series at home, where the Pat Cummins-led Australian team has taken a 3-0 series lead.
