After Manchester United’s defeat at Everton, police are investigating an incident in which Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly swatted a phone out of a supporter’s hand as he walked off the field.
“As players were leaving the pitch at 2:30 p.m., it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch,” Merseyside Police said Sunday. “Inquiries are underway and officers are currently working with Everton Football Club to review CCTV (video) footage and are carrying out extensive witness enquiries to establish if an offence has taken place.”
“It’s never simple to deal with emotions in difficult circumstances like the one we’re in,” Ronaldo added.
“It’s never simple to deal with emotions in challenging situations like this one. Nonetheless, we must always be respectful, patient, and set an example for all the young people who are passionate about the beautiful game,” Ronaldo stated on Instagram.
“I apologise for my reaction and, if feasible, I’d want to invite this fan to see a game at Old Trafford as a gesture of fairness and sportsmanship.”
Ronaldo was recorded hitting a phone out of his path as he struggled past supporters trying to film Manchester United players in footage that has gone popular on social media. Manchester United is investigating an incident, according to Sky Sports News.
