Wicket Keeper in World Cup T20: Here’s why Dinesh Karthik is a perfect choice
Though debuted in 2004, wicket – keeper batsmen Dinesh Karthik never made it big in the Indian team, being a wicket keeper he was always overshadowed by former India captain MS Dhoni. Moreover, due to his lack of consistency, DK never made a permanent place in the Indian team.
But ever since the 37 year old has made his comeback to the Indian T20I team it has been surely a right choice for DK and moreover for the team. Karthik was also the Man of the Match in India’s first T20I in 2006. The batter is known for his heroics in Nidahas Trophy 2018. With his impressive form in the ongoing India v South Africa T20I series, a lot of buzz is going on that DK should be the first wicket keeper choice for India in T20Is.
Over the years, Karthik has made a mark for himself in the shorter format, the batter also had an impressive time with the bat in the past 2 – 3 months. The 37 year old was also a key player in the IPL 2022. Karthik has an average of 46 in the ongoing Indian T20I series with an impressive strike rate of 158.62.
He also played a crucial innings in the third T20I of 55 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match. As far as his current form is considered, Karthik deserves to be a part for India in T20Is.
The current wicket keeper Rishabh Pant is facing a hard time in T20Is, he averages 23 and a strike rate of just 124. In the ongoing series against South Africa the DC captain has just made 57 runs in four matches. He has been unsuccessful in middle overs and give the final touches in the innings. The form of Rishabh Pant has been on a shaky side since 2019 in the shortest format.
With the experience of Dinesh Karthik, he can surely be an asset to the Indian team in upcoming tours of Ireland, England and moreover, the Australia T20 World Cup.
