Zinedine Zidane backs fellow Frenchman Karim Benzema for Ballon d’Or
“Little brother” as what he calls his former Real Madrid player Karim Benzema, Zidane has backed his countrymen to get his hands on the prestigious Ballon d’Or. A big part of Real Madrid’s 35th La Liga title and stunned Europe with his performances as they reached the Champions League final.
The 34 year old was in brilliant form throughout the campaign as he scored a remarkable 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions. He was arguably the best striker in the team and also scored 15 goals in 12 appearances, everything ended well with the victory over Liverpool in the final.
“Karim is like brother I never had. We send each other messages. I’m not surprised by what he’s doing. I knew he was capable of that. He has always been very good at Madrid. He’s simply exceptional. Will he win the Ballon d’Or this year? Top prize? Not only do I think that, but the whole world says it.”
The Frenchman never got any limelight due to the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the club, but ever since his departure in 2018, Benzema is surely enjoying the centre spotlight.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in 17th October, 2022 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
