The iPhone 15’s 5G Modem to Boost Speeds

As there is every year, there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the new iPhone 15. While on the surface, the new model might look pretty much identical to the iPhone 14 – bar a new shade of grey – there have been a number of updates that make the associated buzz warranted.

These upgrades include a new A17 Pro chip for better gaming and software optimisation, a redesigned frame for easier glass panel removal, an upgraded telephoto lens and, perhaps most crucially, a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem.

If you’re scratching your head at that last one, don’t worry, we’re here to explain. The X70 modem is perhaps the most efficient and effective modem out there right now, and it will reportedly enable the iPhone 15 to have some of the fastest 5G speeds compared to its Android counterparts.

iPhone 15’s 5G Modem – Why Is It Important?

So why is this important? Well, for starters, 5G is the optimum mobile network right now. Despite a relatively slow rollout, every phone is expected to have 5G capacities over the next few years, and this will enable faster internet speeds, clearer calls, and far quicker processing speeds for mobile games.

In the gaming-centric world of 2023, this last point is arguably the most important. Take the iGaming market, for instance. As of this year, the iGaming industry is estimated to be worth around $17.4 billion, and this number is only expected to grow.

Consider that the vast majority of online gamers will use their smartphone as their primary gaming device. Online games rely on convenience, fast speeds, and efficiency to ensure the optimum experience, and as the market grows and the variety of games increases, phones will undoubtedly need to run on the fastest network to keep up.

Even today, most online casinos have over 2,000 games on their platform, with real-time experiences that demand fast internet speeds. 5G is going to be crucial when it comes to the growth of this market and the experience of millions of smartphone users across the globe.

The Race For Speed

For every make of smartphone, there is a race going on to be the best 5G compatible smartphone available. Over the last few years, Apple has been attempting to win this race by developing their own 5G modem, but development has been slow and painstaking.

Despite hiring thousands of engineers – many of whom are behind the computing design of their own smartphones and laptops – the process of creating a modem for Apple has been difficult. The alternative, however, is not a bad thing for gamers. Qualcomm has long been the best 5G modem designer and distributor, and the modem used in the iPhone 15 is bound to be a success.

The Future Of 5G

Plans haven’t halted for the iPhone’s own modem, either. While it was expected to be included in this model, Apple executives have pushed plans back beyond 2024, further demonstrating their commitment to get it right and better the user experience – a commitment seemingly not shared by Huawei, who have developed their own modem at the expense of low-power consummation and high-end smartphone performance.

For now, however, people rushing to buy the iPhone 15 – and online gaming lovers, specifically – can be very excited about the capabilities of the new model and the smooth performance that should be in line for them. Over the coming few years, the best modems are going to be sought over by every mobile brand, ensuring that the world of smartphones effectively coincides and is complimented by the world of 5G – even if they are not created by the smartphone company themselves!
