Why did South Korean users file police complain against Google CEO Sundar Pichai!

The representative of South Korean CUCS has filed complaint against Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other top executives of the company in order to protest against hefty commission.

An alliance of south Korean consumers have filed a police complaint against Google’s top most executives including  CEO Sundar Pichai. The in app billing system of the tech giant forced the domestic app developers to pay the bulky amount of commissions.

The Korea Times has stated that the Citizen United for Consumer Sovereignty (CUCS) has filed a complaint against Google Korea CEO Nancy Mable Walker, Google Asia-Pacific President Scott Beaumont and Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul for violating the Telecommunications Business Act.

Google’s in-app payment policy has escalated costs so significantly that created hurdles in the lives of consumers. App developers has no option to revert the request coming from Google which constitute almost 74.6 per cent of the app store market share.

Google has implemented the disputed billing system in Korea from 1st June. The app users are being guided to an external link for payment according to Google’s current billing policy. This has eliminated almost 15-30 per cent commission from in-app purchases according to the reports of Yonhap News.

Google’s in-app purchase policy has created a significant price hike from 15 to 20 percent on the digital goods of Play Store.
