Federally funded research to be available for access by American’s under new policy guidance
The White House Office of Science and Technology recently launched new policy guidance to make federally funded research equitably accessible for America’s Research. The motive behind this step is to ensure that Americans can make use of taxpayer-funded research. Whether it is leading a scientific enterprise, participating in it, accessing the information or benefitting from it, the American public should have their share of gain through it. Additionally it would make sure that all communities are able to take part in America’s scientific possibilities.
The authorities took this step while taking in consideration that factors like race, age, disability status, geography, economic background and gender, have historically and systematically excluded some Americans from availing the benefits of scientific research.
The authorities articulated the previous ‘public access policy guidance’ to federal agencies, in the 2013 OSTP Memorandum on Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Research. The 2013 Memorandum facilitated unprecedented and transformative policy guidance. This in return pushed a strong and constantly growing movement across the Nation and world to strengthen public access to research results.
The new policy change will reduce the barriers to accessing scientific results that are produced by federal government funded researchers. This will facilitate a great deal of equity in science. It is expected that the public access policy of the United States Government will benefit all sectors of society.
