GhostSec claims to hack 50 GB of data from the department of transportation in Texas after Roe v. Wade verdict

GhostSec has claimed to leak 50 Gb worth of data from the department of transportation in Texas in response to the Roe v. Wade verdict. GhostSec is a branch of the Anonymous Collective that gained popularity by claiming to hack several ISIS-affiliated websites back in 2015 for the Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris. Recently, GhostSec claimed on Twitter that they have revealed the hacked data on Telegram.

The Roe v. Wade case was initiated in 1970 when Jane Roe pseudonym of Norma McCorvey appealed to the court for permission to terminate her pregnancy but the Texas law prohibited that. Then She filed a suit against the district attorney of Dallas County, Texas. Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision in 1973 by the U.S. Supreme Court that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion. On January 22 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court has stated that restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional if they assert an “undue burden” on a woman.

On 24 June 2022, the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision by giving power to individual states to set their own abortion laws. Protests emerged immediately condemning the Supreme Court’s decision.

According to reports, following the Supreme Court’s decision Texas along with 12 other states has banned abortions. Texas is already known for having the country’s most restrictive abortion laws and it is being assumed that they might set an intense ban on the same. Texans will have to go a long way to access safe abortions without being criminalized by federal law. Texans will need transportation support to reach neighboring states which haven’t put restrictions on it.

The source says the GhostSec has claimed to hack the department of transportation in Texas as a form of protest for overturning the verdict.

GhostSec’s message says in the Telegram, “this was also done earlier purely for “the lulz” but now that occasion fits we decided it is the perfect time for the publish.”

The anonymous group has also mentioned a message from Tony Douglas saying, “In the end all these U.S. government entities rein of power-hungry leaders will fall and bow down to me…Be warned I’m coming for every .gov domain one…by..one.”

However, the identity of Tony Douglas is still unknown. Supposedly, they have used a pseudonym to state their message directly to the U.S. government.
